In the recent NOAA Fisheries e-newsletter there is an article announcing $6.4 million in FY 2018 funding for 14 projects through their Species Recovery Grants to States supporting recovery actions for threatened and endangered species. Two of the grants went to Hawaii and Virginia for work protecting and conserving sea turtles. Yet here in North Carolina NOAA is in the process of their annual review of the DMF Sea Turtle ITP that allows the incidental killing of sea turtles in the gill net fishery.

Why do we always have to be different in North Carolina?

CCA NC will put up an additional $650 to bring the total reward for information on the sea turtle injury to $2,000.

Must be SOP in Core Sound.

Does anyone besides me remember discussing this here before when the skeleton of a LH was found with a crushed head from an obvious hammer blow?

Glen (Downeaster) defended the practice stating that had any of us tried to removed a live, angry LH from a gillnet.
