Carolina Beach Kings & Bottom Stuff
By Midnight Wind NC Waterman
CAROLINA BEACH - Well folks, Looks like winter fishing is here. My favorite time to go offshore--No crowds, plenty of fish, no T'storms, beautiful water. God has blessed us.
Left Carolina Beach Inlet this morning around 7AM. Nice calm seas. 59 degrees in the ICW and 60.5 at the sea buoy. The inlet is in great shape!!! Had a great crew with Rick and Jimmy. Both good fishermen.
First mission was to catch some King Mackerel for a Boy Scout fund raiser in Kinston where they make a fish stew. Headed out around 25 miles over a rock in 67.1 degree water and it was on. Marked alot of bait along the edges of the rock, and the fish were there. Got doubles, just a few bite offs, a couple of bit through wire, and only a few pulled hooks. Funny thing was, we had 8 in the box in no time, but took us an hour to get the 9'th. (our limit) Bite shut down....
Moved a little offshore and went for the bottom stuff. Rick slayed them with his "bucktail" jig. Me and Jimmy stuck with cut bait. (Old habits die hard) Caught Sea Bass, Grouper, Trigger Fish, Pinkeys, Bee-Liners, Grunts, and NO SHARKS!!!!
Great day out fishing. A weed line is forming 3.5 miles east of the Nashville for those of you that want Dolphin--70.1 degree water.
Here are a few pictures. Y'all be safe.
Good Luck,
Midnight
