Spanish, Albacore, and Ambers
By Waterdog NC Waterman
BEAUFORT/ATLANTIC BEACH - Found some big spanish but we were having a lot more fun with the albacore - they were eating really well for us and brant had more than his fill with them on the 7 wt (most were in the 4-7lb range). He did almost get spooled by a 12lber but he kicked its rear and got him in less than 10 mins.
Then on to the AJs... Found them in incredible numbers - 100s of fish swarmed my boat. I couldnt keep my teaser popper away from them...and couldnt keep a live bait in the water long enough to do a bait and switch. Brant and Jessie quit early because they were so tired. By the time we found the jacks brant, who was already tired from the alberts, worked with the fly rod for maybe an hour before he was beat - it was just too easy.
Did I mention the ocean was slick calm?
Didnt fish around more then 2 boats all day - turned the radio off as the traffic was annoying as all get out. Love to have the fish to myself.
